since feeling is first

Poems by e. e. cummings.

Over time, almost all of his poems will make it to this site. If you're looking for a specific poem and I haven't posted it yet, you can contact me to request it; or, there is a huge database here.

uuuggglllyyy asked: could you post 'somewhere i have never travelled' please? if you haven't posted it before (i searched it and nothing came up) x

That poem can be found here

A note to all: tumblr’s built-in search function simply doesn’t work. If you want to see if I’ve posted something before, the best way is to go straight to the archives and skim through the postings. It shouldn’t take long to find what you’re looking for!

since feeling is first
who pays any attention
to the syntax of things
will never wholly kiss you;
wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world

my blood approves,
and kisses are a better fate
than wisdom
lady i swear by all flowers. Don’t cry
—the best gesture of my brain is less than
your eyelids’ flutter which says

we are for each other: then
laugh, leaning back in my arms
for life’s not a paragraph

And death i think is no parenthesis

"since feeling is first" by e. e. cummings, born on this day in 1864. (via thelifeguardlibrarian)

Happy birthday to a lifechanging poet!

it is at moments after i have dreamed
of the rare entertainment of your eyes,
when(being fool to fancy)i have deemed

with your peculiar mouth my heart made wise;
at moments when the glassy darkness holds

the genuine apparition of your smile
(it was through tears always)and silence moulds
such strangeness as was mine a little while;

moments when my once more illustrious arms
are filled with fascination, when my breast
wears the intolerant brightness of your charms:

one pierced moment whiter than the rest

—turning from the tremendous lie of sleep
i watch the roses of the day grow deep.

Goodness, thank you! that’s one of my favorites, too. Coming right up.

i will wade out
till my thighs are steeped in burning flowers
I will take the sun in my mouth
and leap into the ripe air
                                       Alive
                                                 with closed eyes
to dash against darkness
in the sleeping curves of my body
Shall enter fingers of smooth mastery
with chasteness of sea-girls
                                            Will i complete the mystery
                                            of my flesh
I will rise
               After a thousand years
lipping
flowers
And set my teeth in the silver of the moon

eecummingspoetry asked: I'm also an E.E. Cummings enthusiast and think the idea of a tumblr for him is just great. I've started my own and would love to have support of your followers as well now that you're taking a bit of a break from posting! Figure there's enough e.e. love to go around :)

Alright, tumblrs, have at it!

A Note to All:

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, I don’t often post to this tumblr anymore. It’s for no one reason in particular; there are many more poems out there, but from my end, the posting has more or less run its course. This isn’t a final end to the tumblr, though. I’ll be around. Please continue to stop by - I always love to hear how much other people appreciate ee cummings - and I’m sure I will post things every once in a while as they come across my dash.

Thanks!
